How Que4Radio became Incandescent Audio home-base
Incandescent Audio started as many burgeoning companies do: in a garage. We did the best we could with it, hanging up some black drape and Edison lighting to help it feel like a real studio. But there’s only so much you can do in a small windowless building with no HVAC, so after we got an album and a few live sessions under our belt, we decided it was time to upgrade. Around the same time, our musician and producer friend Zach Bain-Selbo of Blue Dreams Beats was looking for a studio space, so we decided to team up to pool resources and equipment. Starting out in the music industry is tough, but it’s easier when you have good friends to give each other a helping hand.
Our search for a studio space brought us to Que4 Radio, an independent community-based radio station in Humboldt Park. They had a studio with a vocal booth for rent, so we came in to check it out. Walking into Que4 Radio is a bit like stepping into Wonderland. There is beautiful, powerful artwork covering just about every square inch of every wall in the building. Musicians, DJ’s, radio hosts, artists, and community organizers are constantly coming in and out of this magical place of freethinking and movement creation. We knew this was where we wanted to be.
That is how Que4 Radio came to be the home-base for Incandescent Audio. We moved out of our DIY garage space and into a real-deal studio. Thanks to our collaboration with Blue Dreams Beats, our studio is complete with drum kit, keyboards, guitars, bass, amps, a full mic collection to capture any source, and up to 24 channels of simultaneous recording. And to record our Incandescent Sessions videos, we go right down the hall from our studio to Que4’s event space, which is large enough to comfortably fit a full size band, camera crew, and recording equipment.
